Travel

How to get around — ender pearls, runes, sign teleporters, lapis elevators, Nether portals.

Travel here is a toolkit of things you build and step on, not a list of typed commands. Five in-world systems cover everything from a 30-block hop to a map-spanning Nether haul. Two fallback commands exist when you genuinely need them, but they're the back of the toolbox, not the front.

The five in-world systems

MethodRangeCost
Ender pearls~30 blocks ground, more thrown high1 pearl + a bit of damage
Runesemerald-block pads, any same-dimension distance, mob-friendly3 hunger + 2 emerald blocks
Sign teleporterssign-pad to sign-pad, any same-dimension distance1 sign + 1 block
Lapis elevatorsvertical, up to 60 blocks per hop2 lapis blocks
Nether portalslong-distance via 1:8 compressionobsidian + flint+steel

When to use which

  • Short hops — ender pearl
  • Free repeating point-to-point — sign teleporter (build once, use forever)
  • Mob transport, important trips, public rune networks — runes
  • Multi-floor base — lapis elevator
  • Map-spanning — Nether hub

What this section covers

Why this is the toolkit

Distance matters here. The world rewards going far — for that to mean anything, getting there has to mean something. Hence: ender pearls for hops, runes and sign teleporters for committed routes, Nether hubs for map-spanning, lapis elevators for vertical work. Setup costs that keep the wilderness wild and reward players who put real infrastructure into the world.
