Chat & prefixes
How rank prefixes work in chat, the gradient color scheme, hover player cards, and custom nicknames.
Chat on Sunday Market is the social glue. Every message has a rank prefix in front of the player's name, the name itself can be customized, and you can hover over any name to see a quick player card.
The prefix system
Each rank has a gradient color block as a prefix. The gradient sweeps from a brighter highlight to a deeper base, giving a small visual depth that distinguishes the tier.
| Visitor | Member | Citizen | Myth | Legend | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Civilian tiers | gray | green | cyan | purple | gold |
| Helper | Moderator | Admin | Owner | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Staff tiers | yellow | magenta | red | deep red |
The brand red (#f90202) and the warm cream (#fffaf8) are the Sunday Market signature; all gradients are tuned to feel coherent on a dark chat background.
Player nicknames render in the player's chosen nick color (see below) after the rank prefix. A chat line looks like this in-game:
CitizenMothrahey, anyone want to brew?
MemberFranki'm down — meet at the tavern
LegendMothrabringing the wheat
Both the rank prefix and the player's name share the rank's gradient. System broadcasts get a star and gold tint:
★ Mothra has reached the Legend rank.
★ The market opens. Daylight has returned.
Hover player cards
Hover your cursor over any player's name in chat to see a small player card popup with:
- Their actual username (if they have a nickname set)
- Their rank
- Their hours played
- Their current balance (visible to others)
- A timestamp of when they joined the server
Click the name to open a private message draft with @<player> pre-filled.
The card renders in chat-overlay style with rounded corners and the brand color scheme. Bedrock players see a simpler version (Bedrock's chat doesn't support full hover-card formatting) but the same info displays inline.
Custom nicknames
Every player can set a custom nickname with /nick. The nickname:
- Replaces your displayed name in chat and tab list (your real username is still visible via the hover card and
/realname) - Can use any color, including hex (
/nick &#f90202MyName) - Cannot include staff colors — yellow (helper), magenta (moderator), red (admin), deep red (owner) are blocked at nick-time
- Cannot include staff titles — names matching
admin, moderator, mod, owner, helper, staffare auto-blocked - Cannot impersonate other players — usernames already in use are blocked
/nick MyCoolName # set
/nick &aGreenName # with color
/nick &#f90202BrandName # with hex
/nick off # back to your real usernameTo look up the real username behind a nickname:
/realname <nick>What renders in chat
- Player messages — name + your text
/me <text>— action message, shown as* player text- Server broadcasts — auto-promotion announcements, login messages, etc., in brand red
- System messages — economy payouts, brewing results, deaths
Long messages wrap automatically. Hyperlinks in chat are not auto-clickable to prevent abuse — share a link verbally if you need to.
Tab list
Pressing Tab (Java) shows the player list, sorted by rank then alphabetically. Each player shows their rank prefix, nickname, ping, and a small icon for their current dimension (overworld, Nether, End).
Bedrock players don't have a Tab key but /list shows the same info.
