Combat

Vanilla mechanics, custom enchantments on top, recovery chests softening death. PvP rules separate.

Combat on Sunday Market is vanilla refreshed, not replaced. Vanilla swing timing, vanilla damage formulas, vanilla mob AI — all preserved. The custom layer adds:

  • 80+ custom enchantments (combat, defensive, utility)
  • Recovery chests so death doesn't erase your kit
  • A few mob behavior tweaks for quality of life
  • Rank-tiered death-recovery windows

Players who love vanilla combat: it's still here. Players who want depth: enchantments and gear builds give it.

What this section covers

  • PvP — when PvP is on, consent rules, opt-in zones
  • Death & recovery — what happens when you die, the recovery chest flow

What's vanilla

  • Sword swing timing and damage formulas
  • Bow draw mechanics
  • Mob spawn rules (with very minor tweaks for performance)
  • Crit hits, knockback, sweeping edge
  • Mob AI and pathfinding
  • Status effects (poison, regen, weakness, strength)
  • Armor damage reduction formulas

What's tweaked

  • Recovery chests — your inventory at death lands in a personal locked chest at the death spot, with a window of 5–60 minutes (rank-scaled) to recover. See Recovery chests.
  • Death penalty — small coin loss with a 30-second cooldown. Doesn't ruin your wallet for normal combat.
  • No keep-inventory — death drops your inventory; the recovery chest catches it. This preserves the death-cost while removing the punitive "lost it all" sting.
  • Mob behavior — mobs ignore rails (no more mobs breaking your minecart tracks); pets are immune to owner damage; phantoms only attack genuinely AFK / insomniac players.
  • Sleep ignores nearby mobs — vanilla rule says you can't sleep with mobs nearby; ours lets you sleep at your safe-zone base regardless.

What's added

  • 80+ custom enchantments — see Enchantments
  • Last Call — the signature combat enchantment; harder swings when bloodied
  • Lifesteal, First Strike, Vein-Miner-on-mobs, and many more
  • Custom armor — set bonuses, escape clauses, environment-specific protection
  • Brews with combat effects — Bloody Mothra (Strength + Regen), Hellfire Shot, Sakura Sake (Regen)

Damage scales up as your HP drops. Below 5/20, every hit lands at +60% (Lvl I), +90% (II), or +120% (III). Built for the "I'm cooked anyway" comeback swing.

A typical PvE loadout

PvE strategy

  • Solo mining and exploring — armor + decent weapon + recovery-chest awareness; you can survive most things
  • Boss fights — bring a Bloody Mothra brew, equip Last Call gear, drink before engagement
  • Cave clearing — Vein Miner on a hammer + a sword swap for clearing mob spawns
  • Nether trips — Fire Protection + Nether Affinity armor; the overhauled Nether is dangerous
  • End trips — Ender Slayer weapon + End Affinity armor + a feather-falling boots for the void

PvP strategy

The full PvP page covers consent rules, zones, and combat tactics: PvP. Short version:

  • PvP is off in spawn, on outside spawn (with consent — see the page)
  • A losing PvP fight still drops your inventory to a recovery chest
  • Last Call signature works in PvP (you're a more dangerous opponent at low HP)
  • Coordinate with willing opponents; don't ambush peaceful players

Why combat matters here

Sunday Market doesn't have a class system, skill trees, or RPG-style combat. We deliberately avoid that. Combat is vanilla mechanics deepened by build choice — your gear and enchantments are your specialization.

This means:

  • A new player and a Legend share the same combat formulas
  • The Legend's advantage is gear depth, not stat advantages
  • A skilled new player can outplay a casual Legend
  • Builds matter; raw rank doesn't substitute for gear and timing

This is the "no RPG" principle (see design philosophy) made concrete in combat: mechanical depth, not arbitrary stats.
