Tools & Quality

The vanilla papercut fixes — auto-best-tool, auto-smelt, chest sorting, tree felling, inventory helpers, and the comprehensive QoL list.

This section is the vanilla papercut fix layer — small quality-of-life improvements that remove the busywork that distracts from actual play. None of them change the core game; they all just make existing things less tedious.

What this section covers

The principle

Vanilla Minecraft has friction. Some of it is intentional and good (you have to actually mine a diamond to get one). Some of it is just busywork that interrupts the game — switching tools constantly, sorting chests by hand, chopping a tree one log at a time, picking up dropped items off the ground.

Sunday Market removes the busywork without removing the substance.

The colored-concrete example: vanilla makes you bath your concrete powder in water to harden it. That's a step that adds nothing — no choice, no skill, just a hassle. The Sunday Market tweak: concrete powder in your inventory hardens automatically when conditions are met. Same item, same look, less hassle.

This is the "vanilla papercuts" treatment. We've gone through the systems, identified the bits that cost player attention without giving back anything, and quietly fixed them.

What stays vanilla

We don't gut the things that make Minecraft Minecraft:

  • Crafting recipes — vanilla, with a few additions (no recipes removed)
  • Combat formulas — vanilla swing, vanilla damage
  • Mob AI — vanilla pathfinding and behavior (with minor performance tweaks)
  • Block physics — gravity, fluids, redstone — vanilla
  • The progression curve — wood → stone → iron → diamond → netherite

The QoL layer fits between you and the game. It removes friction; it doesn't replace mechanics.

What's tweaked, in summary

The Quality of life page is the comprehensive list. The headline tweaks:

  • Auto-best-tool — swings with the right tool, no manual swap
  • Auto-pickup + auto-smelt — mined items smelt and land in inventory automatically
  • Tree felling — chop one log, full tree falls
  • Chest sorting — one button to sort a chest
  • Mob-to-egg — capture a mob into a spawn egg
  • Anvil text colors — full hex color in anvil text
  • Auto-unload — quickly dump inventory into nearby matching chests
  • Cactus protection — items dropped on cactus don't burn
  • Falling-block break — a falling block breaks non-full blocks below it
  • Double-door sync — both halves open together
  • Silk-touch+ — silk touch on budding amethyst, cobwebs, farmland
  • Auto-plant — dropped seeds auto-plant after a delay
  • Mobs ignore rails — no more mob-broken minecart tracks
  • Totems work in any inventory slot — not just main hand
  • Sleep ignores nearby mobs — sleep at your safe-zone base
  • AFK counts as sleeping — sleep-vote works even when half the server is AFK
  • Path blocks give a movement bonus — paths feel like proper roads
  • All recipes auto-unlocked on join — no recipe-discovery grind
  • Bookshelves store actual books — see Bookshelves

…and many more. See the QoL page for the full list.

Why this matters

Sunday Market is built around the idea that player attention is precious. Anything that uses your attention should pay back with engagement. Switching to the right tool every time you mine? Doesn't pay back. Sorting a chest by hand? Doesn't pay back. Picking up dropped items? Doesn't pay back.

Removing those frictions is part of the polish bar — the difference between "a server with plugins" and "a real curated experience." You don't notice the QoL features when they work; you'd notice immediately if they didn't.
