Region protection

How spawn protection works, what's enforced where, and how to know if you're in a protected zone.

Sunday Market protects spawn and a few designated areas. Outside those, the world is open — claim by community convention, build by etiquette, defend by being friendly.

The spawn protected zone

Spawn is a 600 × 600 block protected zone centered on the spawn coordinates. Inside it:

  • No PvP — players can't damage each other
  • No mob damage to structures — creepers, withers, ghasts can't break blocks
  • No griefing — non-staff can't break or place blocks (with a few designated exceptions like brewing tavern stations and shop chests)
  • No fire spread — fire dies out instead of propagating
  • No TNT damage — TNT placed in the zone doesn't blow up structures

You can move freely, fish, brew at designated stations, browse and buy from spawn shops, and chat. You can't fight or build in the protected zone itself — that's what the rest of the world is for.

How to know if you're in spawn

A few indicators:

  • MOTD-style scoreboard or sidebar may show Region: Spawn (depending on your client and the toggle)
  • Trying to break a block in the protected zone shows a "you can't do that here" message
  • Walking past the spawn perimeter triggers a brief title showing ← Wilderness (you've left the protected zone)

The 600×600 zone is roughly the area around the spawn structure visible from the central plaza — so if you're past the visible structure boundary and into open terrain, you're outside the zone.

Other protected regions

A few small zones outside spawn are also protected:

  • Designated PvP arenas — opt-in PvP zones where damage is allowed but griefing isn't
  • Brewing tavern community area (if applicable, depends on community placement)
  • Major community builds — staff can mark a builder-requested area for protection if a community asks for it (rare, by request only)

What's NOT protected

Everywhere else is fair game — meaning open for building, mining, farming, and (with consent) PvP. There's no auto-claim system — first-found-and-built tends to mean ownership by community convention. See Building & claiming for the etiquette.

If you want region protection on a serious community build (e.g., a town with multiple players' homes), file a ticket with /helpop — staff can set up a protected region for it.

How protection is enforced

Protection runs at the server level — it's not just a chat warning. If you try to break a block in the spawn zone, the block doesn't break and an error message shows. If you try to attack another player in the spawn zone, the attack does no damage. The same is true for any other protected region.

Protection extends in all directions (overworld, Nether, End — though spawn is overworld-only). It also extends vertically — you can't grief by digging under spawn from below.

What if I'm griefed outside spawn?

Outside spawn, the world is open — but the rules still apply. Griefing other players' builds is a punishable offense even though the server doesn't auto-prevent it. See Building & griefing for what counts and how to report.

The server runs a rollback system that records block changes — staff can roll back grief if it's reported with the location. So even though protection is geographic, accountability is global.
